Why You Do What You Do
Have you ever asked yourself: “Why do I do what I do?” Maybe it’s because you need to make a living, or you want to stay in shape; or maybe you’ve never really stopped to think about it, simply because, “You’ve always done it that way!”
It’s easy in the stress and throes of being a parent to lose sight of the big picture and forget why you’re doing what you’re doing.
Children are a “gift from the Lord” (Psalm 127:3) Once you’ve had a child, you can’t imagine life without them. Every single day with them is a gift!
So today, take a step back, and ask yourself: “What do I want most for my son? For my daughter?”
If you’re a follower of Jesus; if your life has been radically changed by Him, I would argue, more than anything, you want your son or daughter to be with you forever in eternity!
You want your child to hear the same words from Jesus you long to hear Him say to you one day: “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your Master.” (Matthew 25:21)
Mom and dad, your kids have been given to you by God for a season, and He longs for you to “bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord’” (Eph. 6:4)
Part of “bringing them up” involves modeling for them what a passionate Jesus follower looks like, and then leading them to faith in Jesus, who is “The Way, the Truth, and the Life.” (John 14:6)
Once they’ve placed their faith in him, accepting his forgiveness, you get the privilege of teaching them the joy of loving and serving Him all the days of their life.
If that happens, one day, you’ll both hear Jesus say “Well done", and you’ll enjoy God’s new creation together, forever.
For a parent who walks with Jesus, that’s why you do what you do!
Keep up the good work. You’ll never regret it!
For the sake of the children,
Phil
